The delivered Supreme Backup Rod is typically circular and flexible foam that is placed in joints or cracks as a "backing" to help control the quantity of sealant/caulking applied and to establish a back stop. Numerous sizes/diameters are available to ensure a best fit for the joint being sealed. Apart from shape, another distinguishing feature is the range of foam cell structures available: bi-cellular, open cell, and closed cell. Our Supreme Backup Rod is crucial to realize that cell structure plays a critical role in irregular joint application, joint flexibility, and sealant selection. It is composed of polyurethane or polyethylene foam, which makes it compatible with most industry-standard joint sealants and caulking.
